< This is the beginning of the assembly of the Butterfly wall hanging for my moms office.
< This is the the butterfly all laid out to make sure I liked it. Before I started appliqueing all the little pieces to the big pieces.
< Here is one wing completely finished. I decided to use black thread because I thought that it would compliment the over all piece. I had a monarch in mind originally. But it really didn't turn out looking much like a monarch did it?
< Here are all four wings fully appliqued. Now I am laying it out on the background fabric that I picked to see what angle looks best. I think that tilting it so that its off center really adds to it. By creating a sense of motion. It really makes it look like its flying. The next step is to applique the whole butterfly to the back ground.
< And now we see the finished front for the butterfly wall hanging. All that needs to be done now is to add some batting, a piece of fabric for the back, machine quilt it a little bit (to keep it together) and to bind it. Then its ready to hang on the wall. I have finished it already, but I didn't take a picture of the finished product. I guess I was a little to excited to get it to my mom. So she could enjoy it for a few weeks before fall rolled around.
