crafting with friends

Seriously can I just tell you how grateful I am for great friends. This is my awesome friend Emily she is such a great blessing in my life. When my husband and I moved to Logan last year I thought it was going to be the end of the world. But then I met Emily and we decided to be crafting buddies. This is her with the first project she made. Its a really awesome tie die batik bag. The project we are currently working on is a queen sized quilt for her bed. Its red, black, and white. I will post a picture when its done but so far it is turning out really awesome. I have a few really great friends this is just a glimps into the great fun we all have together.

Blizzard

So today started out quite nice a bit cold but it was clear sky's until about 1 in the afternoon. Then it started blowing a lot and snowing a lot. I could barely see out my front windshield to drive home from work. I had planned to go do some fun holiday crafting with my friend Emily but that was totally ruined because of this dang blizzard. I could barely see to drive anywhere. But I decided to go to my husbands work to see if he needed me to drive in front of him so that he could see ( his car has broken headlights :( ) Its good I went to make sure he was ok because he got stuck a few times just trying to get out of his work parking lot. Needless to say I ended up driving his car home because this is his first " REAL" winter here in the states. Last winter doesn't count because it was super mild. I even got stuck a few times on the way home but thank goodness for good friends and SUPER STRONG husbands to push you out of snow drift. Now we are home in our cozy house enjoying each others company.

Butterflies

< This is the beginning of the assembly of the Butterfly wall hanging for my moms office.

< This is the the butterfly all laid out to make sure I liked it. Before I started appliqueing all the little pieces to the big pieces.

< Here is one wing completely finished. I decided to use black thread because I thought that it would compliment the over all piece. I had a monarch in mind originally. But it really didn't turn out looking much like a monarch did it?

< Here are all four wings fully appliqued. Now I am laying it out on the background fabric that I picked to see what angle looks best. I think that tilting it so that its off center really adds to it. By creating a sense of motion. It really makes it look like its flying. The next step is to applique the whole butterfly to the back ground.

< And now we see the finished front for the butterfly wall hanging. All that needs to be done now is to add some batting, a piece of fabric for the back, machine quilt it a little bit (to keep it together) and to bind it. Then its ready to hang on the wall. I have finished it already, but I didn't take a picture of the finished product. I guess I was a little to excited to get it to my mom. So she could enjoy it for a few weeks before fall rolled around.

baby sea turtles

Its been quite a while since I last wrote on my blog but I thought I would update you all on the fun things that have been taking up my blogging time. This is one of the many little sea turtles I appliqued onto a baby blanket for my newest cousin "Luke". They are so adorable I had to share. The quilt took a long time to make but it was so much fun to see how it turned out. I always start out with an idea in my head and over the course of the project it always changes. Usually for the better. In the case of this quilt it defiantly changed for the better. It is always so fun for me to see the end product with this crazy creative process that I have. These little guys really got me excited about doing applique with my machine. Although its time consuming its totally rewarding in the end.

Beads

I love making jewelry. My favorite as of lately has been those really cute beaded watch bands. Although I do not wear them my grandma, mom, and sisters all do. :) So when i go to my moms house on the weekends I usually bring all my beading stuff and we make watch bands its really fun. Those watches are also a great way to dress up any outfit. I think my mom has about 20 by now although i havn't counted them recently but every time i go to her house i bring her more. some of the ones in my picture are ones we made on my most recent trip down. As you can see i make a very wide variety. Its lots of fun.
